PRESS: VK mulls over selling gaming division My.Games

MOSCOW, Mar 31 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company VK is considering selling gaming division My.Games, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday citing sources among local video games developers and close to the government.

VK’s management has recently held a meeting with major Chinese games studio Tencent Games, and the matter of sale could have been raised as a logical step, a source close to the government told the daily.

My.Games designs and releases games for PCs, consoles, and mobile devices, and its portfolio now counts over 150 games, like War Robots, Hustle Castle, and Left to Survive. The company sells games via its applications store.

In 2021, the division’s revenue rose 10.5% to 43.8 billion rubles. According to the daily, My.Games brings VK a third of its total revenue. In July–September 2021, My.Games earned 77% of its revenue beyond Russia and the CIS, and its key markets were the U.S., Germany, and France.

My.Games estimated the Russian market of video games at 177.4 billion rubles in 2021, up 9% on the year.
